How to move through Creative Anxiety?
Do you get Overwhelmed when you see other artist’s work?
This is a question that comes up for me and all the online art students that I teach:
“I love looking at what other mixed media artists are doing, but get totally overwhelmed because I like all of their artwork. I want to create art that looks just like theirs! One day I’ll try to imitate one artist’s style and the other day I’m attracted to another artist’s style! Help, I can’t find my own creative voice!! “
Not only does this cause creative anxiety, but it really stops you from going deeper into your own unique self to find what it is that is true to YOU and YOUR artistic style. What’s my advice?
STOP SEARCHING OUTSIDE OF YOURSELF AND DO THESE EXERCISES TO HELP GUIDE YOU BACK TO YOUR INTUITIVE VOICE.
How to remove those Creative Blocks
SIMPLE TIP TO USE YOUR INTUITION AS A GUIDE
First make that messy out of control art piece as a ground. Use your intuition with mark making, paint, textures and stencils. Have fun without thinking of the outcome…Enjoy the freedom of the art process! THEN, take a frame (watch the video to see how it’s done) . Move the frame around the piece. Pencil in areas that resonate for YOU!!!(not for anyone else). You will come across parts that feel like they are really more aligned with your inner voice. How will you know? It’s that AHA moment. That just feels right.
