Creativity in the World of AI

Why is everyone talking about creativity? It's not something new. However, all beings seem to have this drive. Perhaps it is for this very reason that it's a subject at a time where AI proliferates. If we want to keep those parts of the brain active, we have to at least delve into the question: From cave painting times (and probably before), humans have expressed themselves in creative ways be it in carvings, paintings, mosaics, pottery, jewelry, mask making, dancing, drumming, the list goes on….However, creativity is not just about artistic expression, it stretches into the general human trait which allows for us to make new connections from existing knowledge.

Exercising the Creative Muscle in the Workplace in the world of AI

If everything is automated and solutions are at our fingertips, you may ask: What is the role of creative opportunities to problem solve in the workplace?

An article in Growth Engineering Called Wired for Innovation give us a multi faceted definition of creativity:

Originality: Coming up with ideas that are fresh, unusual and distinct from existing concepts or solutions.

  • Flexibility: Thinking beyond conventional boundaries to explore different perspectives, approaches and possibilities.

  • Problem-solving: Applying creative thinking to address challenges, find solutions and overcome issues.

  • Fluency: The ability to generate various ideas or solutions within a set timeframe.

  • Risk-taking: Willingly venturing into unfamiliar territory, taking chances and embracing uncertainty to pursue novel ideas.

  • Elaboration: Refining and developing the initial idea into more detailed and concrete ideas.

The issue is: Where does it come from? Why engage in the process? In the video below, I talk a bit about the subject, however, I do not have the answers, maybe just the questions. Perhaps this is a question of self reflection. What does it all mean for YOU.
